Municipal Programs and Services
Northeast Renewable Energy Group, will develop projects with Municipalities throughout New England, New York, and Nova Scotia. Working with qualified partners NEREG can facilitate planning, design, permitting. procurement, installation and maintenance of landfill methane recovery, solar electric, solar thermal, wind, wave, geothermal, hydro and other clean sustainable energy solutions.
Qualifying Clients Make No Direct Capital Investment
Northeast Renewable Energy Group offers qualified commercial, industrial and municipal clients the opportunity to have a solar array, wind turbine, or hybrid system installed at their facility with no direct capital investment.
Clients enter into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) wherein they agree to purchase the power generated by the renewable energy resource at a fixed rate for a period of 10 to 25 years. Given the volatility of energy costs over the past 25 years, locking in a competitive energy rate today that will be fixed over the next two decades is a good business decision now, and in the future.
During the term of the PPA, clients are billed monthly for only the energy that they consume. All maintenance and other operating costs are borne by NEREG and its third party financial partners.
When the PPA comes to term, clients may extend the PPA or purchase the resource at fair market value.
Reducing Direct Capital Investment, and Accelerating Return on Investment
For our customers and project partners who would prefer to own their renewable energy resources NEREG offers assistance in identifying and applying for all available rebates, grants and other incentives to alllow qualifying commercial, industrial, and municipal clients to greatly minimize direct capital investment in solar electric, solar thermal or wind energy resources.
Turnkey Support in Applying for Third Party Funding & Economic Incentives
Most Municipalities in MA, CT, RI, VT, NH, ME and NY are qualified to receive both state and federal grants, rebates, credits and other economic incentives that can greatly offset the cost of a typical solar or wind energy system.
NEREG can assist clients in identifying all available state and federal grants, rebates, tax credits and other incentives, and offer complete support in preparing timely professional rebate and grant applications. These savings components can contribute to significantly reducing the net installed cost, and return on investment, of a solar or wind energy system.
In addition to helping minimize the cost of for Commercial and Municipal solar and wind installations, by securing appropriate grants and rebates, and identifying federal and state tax incentives, NEREG can help these clients consider opportunities to achieve accelerated rates of return on investment through the sale of excess energy produced, back to the utility grid. Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York, have legislated "net metering" policies in place, wherein the utilities are required to purchase excess power produced at the prevailing retail rate.
Range of Project Development Services for Commercial and Municipal Clients
In addition to assisting customers in identifying and applying for available funding, NEREG assists its customers in the following areas:
- Project Feasibility
- Economic Modeling
- Site Evaluation and Assessment
- Project Management
- Design, Engineering and Installation
- Efficiency Monitoring and Reporting
- Technical Support and Service
NEREG can help evaluate the feasibility of a Wind, Ocean, Solar or other Renewable Energy Project and develop a cost effective, site specific program to help meet a project's energy production goals, including:
Energy Audits
In cooperation with the US EPA, as well as select state and industry partners, NEREG can provide comprehensive energy audits.
Site Assessment of Site Viability
An early phase of each project is the process of assessing the feasibility of a wind, ocean or solar system is evaluating the amount of available wind, current/tide or sun light at your site.
Our technicians will reference and analyze the latest satellite imagery, wind, current and solar resource maps from the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration and other public and private agencies, and conduct an on site assessment of site specific factors at project locations.
Using sophisticated instrumentation that measures potential available sunlight, wind or current we can develop solutions to meet your energy requirements at your location.
In addition to quantifying the available potential energy that could be produced at your site, we would provide you with an understanding of the best available technology options, detailing their respective features and benefits, discussing their respective pros and cons and providing you with technical information, cost estimates for each option, including maintenance costs over time.
Financial Feasibility Study
Another early phase of each project is the process of assessing the financial feasibility of a wind, ocean, solar or other renewable energy system. NEREG can develop sophisticated financial models that will allow decision makers to practically evaluate the financial impact and cost benefit of proposed projects over time.
Additionally NEREG provides assistance in identifying, applying for, and obtaining all available state, federal or private grant opportunities, rebates, tax credits and other incentives.
Other factors that would be considered when evaluating the viability of any Commercial or Municipal project include…
Energy Costs: Electricity, Oil, and Gas
The price oil and gas, and of course local electricity rates will impact the savings and return on investment calculations.
Structural Condition of Roof
Roof mounted solar panel arrays require a stable platform, so the condition of the roof it is to be mounted is important.
Existing Power Infrastructure
Older buildings sometimes require updated wiring, routing, and panel upgrades and or expansion, and electrical conditioning and metering in instrumentation, including an appropriate inverter will be required to change the DC generated electrical power to AC for use in the building, and so it can be returned to the Power Grid at times when excess energy is produced.
Implications of "Net Metering". Selling Energy Back to the Grid
There may be times when your wind generator or solar panels are producing more electricity than you are consuming. At such times, grid tied installations feed energy back to the Power Grid, generating energy credits from your local utility, typically at the "retail rate".
Existing Heating and Hot Water Systems
When considering Solar hot water, or solar space heating projects, consideration must be given to existing heating/cooling systems.
Power Consumption and Future Requirements
We will work with you to identify your current power consumption and assess your future power requirements, often considering additional conservation measures.
Energy Production Objectives
As wind and solar PV systems can be designed to provide all or just part of a buildings energy requirements, we will work with you to understand your objectives, in order to identify the most appropriate and cost effective solutions to meet that requirement.
Permitting Requirements
We will work with you to understand all local and regional permitting requirements, and can assist in the process of applying for and obtaining the required permits.
Aesthetic Considerations
Solar Arrays and Wind Turbines now are available in a broad range of sizes. PV Arrays are available either as traditional solar panels mounted on the roof, as integrated panels which are mounted flush to the roof line, or as preformed shingles. Wind turbines can either be mounted remotely on selected roofs.
NEREG can help assess the viability of sites to be developed, afford an understanding of technology option costs and benefits, evaluate the economics of your project, direct professional installation and service of your system, and even assist you in ongoing real time monitoring of the efficiency of your system.
Our goal is to first provide our commercial and municipal customers with all of the information needed to make practical and informed decisions about their projects, and then to work with them to implement their projects in as time efficient and cost effective a manner as possible.
